Rainbow Mountain Hike

Rainbow Mountain & Lake, Whistler, BC

We started the hike from the trailhead of Rainbow Lake Trail. Approx 8 kms of steady elevation to Rainbow Lake.

From there, we hiked and scrambled up another 3 kms to Rainbow Mountain with most of the elevation gain done in the last 2 kms. First boulder field was not difficult but trail is faint and unmarked. There are cairn markers on the way.

Lots of loose rocks and we took extra precautions hiking on them without causing any rock slides. The last 300-500m we hiked on the snow bank with views of the Rainbow glacier field and the prominent pinnacle on the ridge.

Hiking on the ridge was a bit technical as lots of exposed sections, drops can be seen from either side, and going around the exposed pinnacle. Last 150m scrambled on loose rocks. Once at the top, there is a false peak closest to the glacier. The true peak is about 20m away with a stick marker.

Wonderful views of surrounding coastal mountains in Pemberton Valley and Whistler. Being above the clouds made the moments at top heavenly.

MOUNTAIN STATS
Elevation gain: approx. 1,731m
Mountain Height: approx. 2,423m
Distance: 24.3 km roundtrip
Level: Difficult
Time: 10-11 hours round trip
